Overall Purpose of The Job
- To ensure that each vessel of the managed fleet is adequately and competently manned and operated within a prescribed budget in accordance with the applicable ship management agreement.
- To manage the Crew Department and ensure the flawless delivery of crew management and crewing operations activities within the assigned fleet cell.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks
- Works closely with the Operations Director, CMPs, the Fleet Cell and the Crew Management Centre to ensure service delivery as per contract with the customers and escalate performance issues where required.
- Functions as the point of contact in escalation of all crew matters between the CMPs, Fleet Managers and the Crew Management organization. Ensures that the performance of crew on board and relevant procedures are followed through.
- Ensures that Fleet Cell deliver upon the crew KPIs agreed between customer and Fleet Cell, which includes budget ownership for crewing operations.
- Schedules and reports regular service performance and budget reviews in line with expectations agreed with the customer and recommend actions to support continuous improvement.
- Responsible for the crewing elements of the budget, and reporting and negotiating with the customer in cooperation with the Operations Director.
- Proactively identifies crew retention risks and issues, and works with appropriate stakeholders to mitigate the risks and address issues
- Drives and suggests improvements for the diligent usage of ShipSure as “system of record” for all crewing activities
- Pre-approving the Senior & Junior officers Crew Management Partners’ planning , including promotions proposals, before submission to the Fleet Cell.
- Communicates with the vessels for Crewing Related issues & problems solving.
- Responsible for commercial relations for assigned fleet and acts as the relation manager with the assigned clients for crewing matters.
- Assists HSSEQ in accident investigations related to crewing and the implementation of corrective/preventive actions
- Monitors and supervises the behavioral and operational performance of seafarers and play an active part in the development of their careers by utilizing the information from V.Ships Competency Management & Performance Appraisal system.
- Ensure compliance with V.Ships Crew Management System
- Provide, in collaboration with the fleet cell, a welcoming and supportive environment when seafarers visit the office for any reason.
- Provide an appropriate level of sensitive and diplomatic support and guidance on crew welfare matters.
- Monitor crew P&I claims and provide assistance to the Insurance department as required.
- Develop both professionally and personally direct reports by carrying out meaningful and timely performance appraisals and reviews. This includes the flagging of training & development requirements to the Operations Director for agreement and inclusion in the Office training plan.
- Any other matters as may be required by the Operations Director in the efficient running of the Office.
- Utilizes in-depth professional knowledge guided by functional practices/standards
- Provides advanced professional input to complex issues and provides guidance to more junior role
- Exercises judgement in the evaluation, selection and adaptation of both standard and complex techniques and procedures
- Use deep professional knowledge and acumen to advice functional leaders/stakeholders
- Focuses on implementing and executing strategies within the fleet cell/team

- 5 years Maritime or Shipping industry experience knowledge as supplier, manager or owner.
